LEGAL / ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS

When making a film, there are many legal considerations that you need to make sure you follow when featuring
people and places, this also applies when using copyrighted music or sound effects.

For public liability there are legal requirements to follow because the filming can take place in a public
environment. My sixth form media and film department have public liability insurance for when students make
films, however, if they did not have this legal action could take place which would not allow me to film.

The borough film services is a company that work with the company and help people with filming. They let people
know where you can film without legally getting in trouble and they also let people know where to film without
problems. When you work with them you get a letter to say you are able to film in a particular spot, however, the
police are still able to move you from your filming spot if they feel like you and your team are causing a disruption
to the public or the land you are on.

In the UK we have a company called the BBFC (British board of classification) and they work with people who
make film to get the right age on the project. They help with all age ratings and although they are not a
government organisation they do deal with complaints and advise people to reshoot scenes when they want to
meet a certain age rating. If you do need to re-shoot you need to make sure you leave enough time so you are not
going over deadlines and your project does not become delayed.

In my production I filmed on private land owned by my family so I didn’t need to worry about any legal
considerations and I also filmed in my school with permission from the school so I do not need to worry about
that either. My target audience is 16+ as my film does include suicidal issues.
